Quora is a question and answer site that was started by two former Facebook employees. It's free to use. Spend some time on the site searching by topic. Just now I typed fashion into the search bar and the following questions popped up:
What are the best fashion blogs?
What is fashion?
What is trending in fashion?
You'll find some really good blog ideas by implementing this tip.
In my post where I talk about how to do SEO for your fashion blog, I mention using Keysearch to find keywords. It's my go-to tool and I highly recommend it. Make sure you sign up through my link to save 20%.
Once you have Keysearch, all you need to do is put a competitor's website into the Explorer section and it will tell you what keywords they rank for. If you see a keyword you like, then you can create a post about it.
Since the outbreak of coronavirus, a lot of people have been staying inside. I just knew that people would be bored and would start looking for something to do inside. This gave me the blog idea of creating an indoor activities post for my lifestyle blog.
Think about what's going on in the world at the present time and see if you can either add your take on it or see how it relates to your blog's niche.
If your followers on social media are asking you questions, then you can easily turn those into blog posts. Same goes for what people email you about and the comments your readers leave on your blog.
If your site is getting a lot of traffic, consider adding live chat software, like Olark, to your blog. This will certainly give you lots of new ideas of what to blog about.
Writing posts about holidays and seasons can be a great source of content ideas. Subsequently, it can also bring your blog lots of traffic. Consider writing content around these. Here are some examples that I've done here on this blog:
Whenever I'm feeling super lazy, I'll decide to do a roundup post. A roundup is a post where a bunch of different bloggers give their input on a specific topic.
I've done several of these and they work extremely well. The only downside is that they're a lot of work! In a future post, I'll talk about how to make your roundup post successful.
Let's face it, people love to talk about themselves. You can either do the interview on live video or send someone a list of questions to answer.
Many successful people have made a business out of interviewing people. One such person is Joe Rogan. His podcast, back in 2015, was listened to by more than 11 million people.
While this idea doesn't give you a new post, you should take time to update your old posts. When I have done this, I've seen an improvement in the post's Google ranking. Find a way to make the post more in depth. Moz's post on creating 10x content will give you some ideas to make your old posts shine brighter.
A guest post is where another blogger publishes an article on someone else's website. As your blog gets more established, people will reach out to you and want to guest post for you. If you have a new blog, you'll need to reach out to bloggers and ask them to guest post for you.
I've accepted a few guest posts here and will continue to do so moving forward. Before you go accepting any guest post, make sure a few criteria are met:
After the guest post has been published on your site, ask the guest writer to share the post on their social media accounts as well. If you'd like to contribute a post that you think our target audience will like, feel free to contact me.
This topic idea is a great one for two reasons. First, you're probably already reading books related to your site's niche. Second, you can make a little money by promoting the books you review as an Amazon affiliate.
For tips on how to write a book review, read Joanna Cutrara's tips on the Grammarly blog.
A good blogger will have his eyes on what's happening in his or her industry. If there's an article that's going viral that you disagree with, you can write a response piece that talks about why you disagree with it.
Stay on top of your niche by setting up Google Alerts with your niche's main keywords. For me, I have an alert set up to have Google alert me anytime an article is written about "modest fashion".
It sounds boring, but the more you do it the more you'll enjoy it. A tool like Keysearch makes it easy. Enter in any word into the Keyword Research section and the tool will spit out hundreds of keyword ideas. You can write about each keyword you find. Find one that interests you and start writing!
To see what you rank for on Google, you're going to need a Google Search Console account. If you don't have an account, there's a few things you going to need to do before you get access this data.
After you've done this and you've waited at least 48 hours, take a look at what keywords your posts show up for. Whenever I do this, I get all kinds of new blog post topics. The key here is to write a post about a keyword that your post is showing up for but doesn't address.
My hope is that after you've read this post you can now come up with lots of new blog post ideas. When you've got writer's blog, what do you do to come up with new blog topics? Let me know in the comments below.
