If you’re wanting to wear overalls, but it’s too cold outside to not have any outerwear on, then a long cardigan is the perfect addition to your outfit.
This makes for such a cute and stylish fall outfit! It’s one of my favorite ways for how to style a long cardigan.
I love this outfit from Dress Corilynn! She’s wearing a brown cardigan, skinny denim overalls, a white shirt, and tan mules.
You can wear any type of skirt with a long cardigan, but pencil skirts look really good with them. They make your outfit more sleek and less bulky looking.

You can wear any type of button down shirt with a long cardigan, but my favorite is a chambray shirt. You could also do a plaid shirt and that would be really cute.
If your shirt is long sleeved, then you’ll want to make sure that the sleeves on your cardigan are loose enough for your shirt to fit under it comfortably.
Pretty Life Girls is wearing a red cardigan, a chambray shirt, black pants, and black loafers. This is a really cute business casual outfit.
Rolling your sleeves up a little is a fun way to spice up your outfit. It looks really cute with a long sleeve shirt, but can also be done with a short sleeve shirt.
Putting Me Together is wearing a mustard cardigan and a long sleeve black and white striped shirt.
She rolled the sleeves up a little and it makes it so you can see her striped shirt. She’s also wearing dark skinny jeans, tan booties, and a white purse.
There’s really no limit to what types of shoes work with long cardigan outfits. You can wear heels, knee high boots, boots, booties, flats, and tennis shoes. The type of shoes you choose will depend on whether you want to be more dressed up or casual.
What type of shirt do I wear under a long cardigan?
It can be a little tricky to find a great shirt to wear under your cardigan. The best types to wear are tops that are on the thinner side, a tank top, or a short sleeve shirt. Long sleeves or thick shirts can get bunchy and uncomfortable under a cardigan. You also don’t want anything with puffy sleeves.
I hope this post helped you with how to wear a cardigan with jeans, with a skirt, and everything else!
